The night of Saturday, December 6, was marked by a series of incidents that generated concern in Cúcuta and its surrounding areas. According to information from the Cúcuta Metropolitan Police, Colombia, around 10:45 pm, a violent attack occurred against the Morichal Immediate Attention Center (CAI), located in Villa del Rosario, where two officers were injured. Both remain in stable condition and continue under medical observation, according to the official report.
In a second incident, in the La Concordia neighborhood, a police patrol was ambushed, resulting in the deaths of Police Superintendent Franklyn Alfonso Guerrero and Sub-Superintendent Jairo Andrés Holguín Calderón, two officers with extensive experience in the force. The local community expressed its shock at the attack, while authorities reinforced their operational presence in the area.
According to initial analyses, these acts appear to be related to alleged retaliations attributed to an illegal armed group, in response to recent operations carried out by the Public Force in the region. Authorities emphasized that these incidents are currently under investigation and that special protocols have been activated to determine their origin.
A third incident occurred in the El Escobal neighborhood, where residents reported hearing loud explosions in the early hours of Sunday, December 7. The noise reportedly caused power outages that temporarily affected several areas, according to residents.
Brigadier General William Oswaldo Rincón Zambrano, the National Police Director, issued a statement via his official account, categorically condemning the incident and emphasizing the institution’s commitment to protecting citizens. In his statement, he expressed solidarity with the families of the affected officers and reiterated that efforts will continue to ensure peace and security throughout the country.
The Mayor’s Office of Cúcuta also expressed its concern over the attacks that disrupted the city’s peace and sent a message of support to the victims’ loved ones. For its part, the Police activated specialized intelligence and forensic teams to advance the investigation, identify those responsible, and bring them to justice.
These events have generated a call for unity and citizen cooperation to maintain security in the region, while official efforts are underway to restore normalcy and clarify each incident.
