LINCOLN COUNTY Ore. (KPTV) – People living in 10 homes around the landslide that closed Highway 229 in Lincoln County have been placed on evacuation notice, the sheriff’s office said in an update on Sunday.
On Friday, the landslide near Siletz affected roughly 0.2 miles of road and damaged two homes, along with a third building, LCSO said in the Sunday update. Previously, the sheriff’s office had said three houses had been destroyed.
Officials said the area is still dangerous and people are asked to stay away.
LCSO said they’ve had reports of debris washing up on the shores of Siletz River, the Siletz Bay, and ocean beaches.
Lincoln County Oregon Emergency Management asked anyone who finds such personal items, such as photos or documents, to report them to law enforcement, give a description of the item and where it was found:
- Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency: 541-265-0777
- City of Lincoln non-emergency: 541-994-3636
Additionally, officials asked community members to be extra cautious in and around the Siletz River due to danger from debris and high water.

The Oregon Department of Transportation does not know how long Highway 229 will remain closed, as crews are still working to assess the damage and determine next steps, officials said.
Drivers are warned that there are no nearby detours, and they will need to plan alternate routes.
