Driver dies in Beaverton after speeding away from Portland officers, police say.

BEAVERTON Ore. (KPTV) – A driver died in Beaverton after speeding away from Portland police early Saturday, according to police.

Just after 2:15 a.m., officers with the Portland Police Bureau pulled over a car they saw driving recklessly near Northwest Eighth Avenue and Burnside Street.

The driver stopped, but police say that as they were asking for more officers to come support them, the driver sped off.

Several minutes later, officers spotted the car driving normally near Southwest Barnes Road and 87th Avenue. When police began to follow the car, but before they turned on their lights, police say the driver made a U-turn and sped away again.

Once officers turned around and began following again, they found the car crashed several blocks away at Southwest Barnes Road and Southwest Valeria View Drive.

The driver died in the crash, and no other people or cars were involved, police said. PPB also emphasized that the crash did not happen while officers were actively pursuing the driver.
