Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Moss recalled a hilarious and slightly awkward moment after filming wrapped for the upcoming final season.
The cast and crew were offered the chance to claim mementos from the set, and Moss — in the most relatable way — jumped at the chance.
“We had an email sent to all of the [executive producers] that was like a full list of all the props and costumes that we could take,” she told Kimmel. “In a very mature way, I wrote back ‘dibs,’ and then proceeded to say everything I wanted.”
Included in her must-have list? Offred’s specially designed underwear set. But Moss quickly found out she’d already been beaten to the punch.
“I was informed that someone already asked for it,” she said.
Naturally, Kimmel was stunned. “Wait a minute… This is your custom underwear that you wore and some creep on the staff requested it in writing?” he said in disbelief.
Even more baffled, the late-night host continued: “Like, ‘I want Elisabeth’s underpants. I’m going to take them home. I’m going to put them in storage for a while.’”
“Hopefully!” Moss replied, laughing. She admitted that putting them in storage would be “the best-case scenario.”
The Mad Men alum also said she never wanted to find out who made the strange request, adding: “I don’t want to know who wants my underwear… I have to work with these people.”
Kimmel didn’t let it go so easily, calling the move “crazy” and hoping it was “a woman” who made the request.
“Oh my god, I hope it’s a woman,” he told her. “Someone made a formal request for your underwear, like, in writing, in an email that they shared with other people. We need to know who that person is.”
And because it’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he even suggested a Hulu bonus feature to reveal the culprit.
“You could tack on a little post-show on Hulu in which you reveal who took the underwear,” he joked. “Kind of like the Bachelor: Men Tell All special.”
But plot twist — the mystery didn’t last long. Speaking to PEOPLE at the Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 premiere on Monday, Moss revealed the “underwear thief” came forward after seeing her interview.
“I think it’s so funny,” she said, but confirmed she won’t be outing the person. “I don’t want to out them publicly,” she explained, though she now knows “who it is.”
And as it turns out, the whole thing might’ve just been a big misunderstanding.
“He told me and it wasn’t exactly what we thought it was,” she said. “It’s not bad. It’s not as bad as we thought it was. He didn’t actually specifically ask for my underwear, which is good. So we’re good guys.”
